RANGE OF MOTION EXERCISES

Introduction:

Exercise is the best medicine for human body. It is the active contraction and relaxation of muscles.The body is designed for movement by having joints and muscles.

Purposes 

To increase muscle strength and endurance.
To maintain normal physiological functions.
To improve physical activity.
To increase joint flexibility.
To prevent complications caused by immobility.

Range of motion exercise according to the  parts

Neck 

Move head through flexion, extension,lateral flexion, rotation and hyper extension of neck.

Shoulder

Flexion, extension,hyper extension, abduction,adduction and circumduction ,external and internal rotation.

Elbow

Flexion , extension,pronation, supination.support elbow joint both proximally and distally.

Hand

Move hand through flexion, extension,hyper extension, abduction . Opposition of the thumb and circumduction of thumb.

Hip

Move hip through flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, internal rotation and external rotation and circumduction with support above and below joints.

Knee

Move knee through flexion and extension.
